ABUS EOT cranes in the far North

Norway with its many thousand kilometres of coast line is synonymous with a long tradition in shipbuilding industries and their highly specialised suppliers. The company Brunvoll A/S (www.brunvoll.no) has been doing business in Molde for near to a hundred years. Brunvoll A/S started off with building ship’s engines. Since 1964, however, they fully concentrated on developing and producing bow and stern thrusters. So far more than 2,800 ships worldwide have been equipped with thrusters made in Molde.

Brunvoll A/S is a world leader in ship manoeuvring systems and has put a lot of effort in the development of their employees’ competence and improvement of production systems and facilities during the past 10 years.

Different ABUS cranes come in helpful in the production in the Årø plant. The latest crane supplied is a giant crane with a capacity of 2 x 40 tons and a span of 22 m. The crane beams have a full 2 m height and — as can be seen on the pictures — this crane totally dwarfs the neighbouring EOT crane of 50 tons capacity. The end carriages are of the bogie type with a 4-wheel drive.

This crane was supplied by the local ABUS partner Kransystemer A/S which is part of Industrikran Norge A/S (www.industrikran.no) and it was the last in a series of ABUS cranes supplied to the new plant at Årø over the past decade. At this plant there are now installed a total of 30 ABUS cranes: 15 are EOT cranes of different load capacities, 6 are wall travelling cranes, and there are also 9 jib cranes.
